가끔씩 아, 이 노래 어디서 들어봤는데......하는 경우가 있는데 이 바스켓 케이스도 그런 경우지요.
이 곡은 미국의 펑크 밴드 그린 데이의 1994년 3집 앨범 Dookie에 수록된 곡으로 1600만이 넘는 판매량을 보인데다 상도 받은, 현재의 그린 데이를 있게 해 준 곡과 앨범이라고 할 수 있지요.
일단 장르는 펑크이긴 합니다만 이 곡이 발표됐을 당시에는 그 당시 펑크의 주류인 사회 부조리에 대한 비판이 아닌 대중적이고, 개인의 신변사를 풀어내기 바쁜 가사에 귀에 너무 잘들리는 펑크라고 비판을 받기도 했었다네요. 물론, 그것이 역으로 작용해서 그린 데이가 사랑받을 수 있고 유명해질 수 있게 만든 것이기도 하지만 말이죠.
